Reptiles: A Beachside Learning Experience

On Wednesday, March 26, Sunny Shores Academy teamed up with Coastal Reptiles to bring an unforgettable Florida reptile experience—right on the beach! The evening began in the Clubhouse, where students gathered to learn all about reptiles. We read books to activate our background knowledge about snakes and tortoises, sparking curiosity to learn more about reptiles. We then dove into a fun craft. Each student got to design their own snake, decorating it with markers, stickers, and other creative touches—a keepsake they can now hang up at home.

After finishing our crafts, we headed to the beach to meet Colleen and Jerry from Coastal Reptiles, along with their amazing reptilian friends! Students had hands-on reptile learning with the chance to hold and pet the snakes, tortoises, and lizards. They also fed the tortoises lettuce!

As the sun set over the shore, the beach buzzed with excitement as students made new friends, explored, and spent time with the reptiles. It was a magical evening, and we can’t wait to collaborate with Coastal Reptiles again! My son and I attended a reptile workshop at Sunny Shores Academy and he loved it! Books were read aloud to build background knowledge of the animals, the students did a craft, and the children feed and pet numerous reptiles on the beach. What a memorable experience! -Lillian
